An entrepreneurial group of dentists began the Alberta Dental Service Corporation (ADSC) in 1964. The ADSC set out to offer companies, large and small, an innovative and cost-effective way to provide employee benefits.

For the next 25 years, the company flourished and became innovators in the development of dental benefits packages. In 1989, with the help of yet another group of dentists, the ADSC evolved even further. Responding to a need for additional improvements to dental and health insurance options, Lyle R. Best was hired as CEO to lead them in a new direction.

Under Lyle Best's direction, the company introduced Quikcard dental plans. These plans were dramatically different from other health insurance products because the self-directed, self-funded plans were more flexible and cost-effective.
