FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Is Quikcard insurance?
No, Quikcard is not an insurance provider. Quikcard assists in the design and implementation of customized benefits programs that allow companies to manage their health spending. There are no pre-determined packages to choose from, and fees paid that are not used belong to the company – not Quikcard.
Why would I choose Quikcard over an insured health plan?
Quikcard offers several advantages over health insurance plans. A Quikcard health plan can be as flexible and extensive as the employer wishes to make it. Within the guidelines set by the employer, employees are free to pursue treatment plans as recommended by their practitioner. This can include specific brand name prescription drugs instead of generic brands, as well as services that may not be covered by insurance, such as massage therapy, naturopathy, physiotherapy, and more.
Can individuals apply for a Quikcard health plan?
Unfortunately, no. Canadian tax laws allow only incorporated companies, limited companies, and sole proprietors to take advantage of a health spending account offered by Quikcard. Businesses of any size, however, are able to deduct the fees paid toward employee health benefits as a business expense and offer non-taxable benefits to their employees. Ask your accountant about the tax advantages of a Quikcard health plan.
Keep in mind that if your company doesn't offer employee health benefits or you're not satisfied with your current insurance plan, talk to your boss about Quikcard. It's easy to tweak interest when suggesting Quikcard will save the company money!
How much will my plan cost?
Your company only pays for treatment used with Quikcard, so your monthly fee is determined by the amount of coverage you establish for your plan. Our helpful, experienced representatives can perform an assessment of your past benefits costs and set up a budget that allows you to control and manage your health spending for the next year. You may be surprised at how much you save, since you never lose what you don't use.
What does Quikcard charge for this service?
With Quikcard, there are no start up, cancellation, or yearly fees. Our low fixed administration fee of 9.75% is charged only when claims are processed.
What services are covered by Quikcard?
Since you do not choose from pre-determined plans, you decide what services are covered and to what extent. Quikcard health plans may include:
- Dental services – basic, major and orthodontic
- Vision services – eye exams, lenses, frames, contacts, laser eye surgery
- Health services – psychological, audiology, acupuncture, massage therapy, physiotherapy, medical services and equipment, and any other service on a medical doctor's referral.
- Prescription drug coverage – all pharmaceuticals; our drug card is accepted at virtually all pharmacies across Canada.
At year end, what happens to funds that aren't used in my account?
A surplus cheque can be written in that amount, or the funds can be applied to your plan for the upcoming year. Payments are then adjusted accordingly.
What if my plan doesn't have enough money to cover treatment costs?
If your claims exceed the funds in your account, you may be required to increase your monthly payment or deposit additional funds to clear any outstanding deficit.
Does Quikcard offer life or disability insurance?
No. Since Quikcard is not an insurance agency, we don't offer insured products, such as life or disability insurance.
